Alfonso Gonzalez Jr. (b. 1989) lives and works in Los Angeles, the city where he was born. His art developed from close observation of his father’s skills as a commercial sign painter. Gonzalez’s multilayered paintings excavate the interactions that accrue on the cityscape’s weathered surfaces, functioning as palimpsests. He has had solo presentations at Jeffrey Deitch, New York (2025), and Matthew Brown, Los Angeles (2022). Recent group exhibitions include shows at MOCA Grand, Los Angeles (2024), and the Rubell Museum, Miami (2023), among others.
