Born in San Bernardino, California, in 1986 to undocumented Mexican immigrants who have since become U.S. citizens, Jay Lynn Gomez (formerly Ramiro Gomez) briefly attended CalArts before leaving to work as a live-in nanny with a West Hollywood family. Witnessing firsthand the immigrant labor force that maintains the lifestyle of America’s wealthiest classes, she has focused her artistic practice on making the “invisible” visible. Gomez has had solo exhibitions at the University of Michigan Institute for the Humanities, Ann Arbor, and the West Hollywood Library. She has participated in group shows at the MCA Chicago and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Her work is in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C., among others. The monograph Domestic Scenes—The Art of Ramiro Gomez was published in 2016.

Jay Lynn Gomez (antes Ramiro Gomez) nació en San Bernardino, California, en 1986. Sus padres eran inmigrantes mexicanos indocumentados y más tarde obtuvieron la ciudadanía estadounidense. Gomez asistió al California Institute of the Arts por poco tiempo, pues empezó a trabajar como niñera de tiempo completo para una familia de West Hollywood.
