Monica Kim Garza
Born in Alamogordo, New Mexico, in 1988 to a Korean mother and Mexican father, Garza was raised in central Georgia until attending school in the Bay Area. Drawing inspiration from classical Renaissance art as well as her own culture, she portrays audacious women, living life to the fullest. They lounge, eat, drink, smoke, sunbathe, have sex, and play sports, enjoying mundane activities as they calmly and unabashedly gaze at the viewer. Garza lives and works in Atlanta. She has had many solo exhibitions, including at SOCO Gallery, Charlotte, North Carolina (2022), and The Hole, New York (2021), and participated in group shows at Ruttkowski;68, Cologne (2021), and V1 Gallery, Copenhagen (2021), among others.

De madre coreana y padre mexicano, Monica Kim Garza nació en 1988, en Alamogordo, Nuevo México. Creció en el centro de Georgia hasta que comenzó sus estudios en la Bay Area de San Francisco. Hoy vive y trabaja en Atlanta. Inspirada por el arte renacentista clásico y su propia cultura, retrata mujeres audaces que viven la vida con plenitud: descansan, comen, beben, fuman, toman el sol, tienen relaciones sexuales y hacen deporte, disfrutan las actividades mundanas mientras miran al espectador con calma y descaro. Ha tenido muestras individuales, como la de SOCO Gallery, Charlotte, Carolina del Norte (2022), y The Hole, Nueva York (2021).
