This catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition "ROBERT MANGOLD | Beyond the Line: Paintings and Project 2000–2008," which was one view at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery from October 23, 2009, to January 31, 2010.
The book traces Mangold’s artistic roots and development, from his austere geometric paintings of the 1970s to his work on the colored glass windows for Buffalo's United States Courthouse and the animated ring images he is creating today. Insightful essays by exhibition curator Douglas Dreishpoon; Marla Prather, senior consultant in the Department of Nineteenth-Century, Modern, and Contemporary Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; and architect William Pedersen, along with an in-depth interview by Dreishpoon with the artist, afford an intimate look at his process.
