This sculpture series takes its name from the material leftover in metal-cutting processes (the pieces that fall to the floor are called “drops”). Resembling a collection of scraps, Erin Shirreff’s Drop works are informal and, at times, even changeable compositions of cut-steel shapes. The forms of these fragments are in turn based on enlargements of cut-paper remnants.
