Marie Lorenz will discuss her video work Ezekia (on view through September 11), and tell stories from her Tide and Current Taxi project. Representatives from our partners at the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy and Buffalo Niagara RIVERKEEPER will introduce Lorenz.

Ezekia, 2014, is the fragmented story of a group of women explorers who, at some point in the not-too-distant future, navigate and make sense of a seemingly destroyed coastline. As part of the Tide and Current Taxi project, which she started in 2005, Lorenz explores New York Harbor and beyond, taking visitors in a rowboat built from salvaged materials to disused coastlines and inaccessible islands, and experiencing the urban environment from the rare perspective of the water. Along the way, she often collects trash that becomes material for her artworks in other mediums.

After the talk, join us on the museum’s Elmwood Avenue Portico for a celebration with The Art of Food and Drink: Western New York Wineries, food trucks, and conversation with the artist about the visible and invisible waterways that surround us.
