The reopening of the Buffalo AKG Art Museum in 2023 after a decade of expansion planning and nearly four years of construction presented a curatorial challenge shared by few museums: how should one of North America's great museums of modern and contemporary art approach curating when the possibilities of the museum itself have fundamentally changed?

Join Buffalo AKG Chief Curator Dr. Cathleen Chaffee and Curator Dr. Andrea Alvarez for a conversation moderated by Ismaila Alfa, host of CBC’s Fresh Air, about curating in a museum transformed by new space, new audiences, and new ambitions. Drawing on recent exhibitions and immersive projects, they will explore how architecture can reshape curatorial thinking, how exhibitions and collecting inform one another, and why a focused commitment to modern and contemporary art continues to define the Buffalo AKG.
