Today the Buffalo AKG announced a new exhibition that will feature artworks by museum staff that opens on Friday, June 5. The exhibition will take place in the museum’s M&T Bank Gallery, and will remain on view through Sunday, August 2.

It is not uncommon at the Buffalo AKG to meet a Preservation and Safety officer with a master’s degree in art history or an Art Preparator with an active sculpture practice. Many staff members are drawn to work at the museum by a love and appreciation for art. Many are artists themselves, whether pursuing independent artistic careers, nursing lifelong hobbies, or dabbling in something for the first time inspired by the art on the museum’s walls. Together, they create a place that is safe for the art and welcoming to visitors.

While some staff members are visible to guests, there are many more working behind the scenes to keep the building running, properly care for and install artworks, photograph and document the collection, plan and carry out events and programs, and much more. The museum shines because of the work of the 183 staff members that contribute to all facets of operations. To celebrate their dedication and to spotlight their work—not as employees but as artists—the Buffalo AKG is proud to present this exhibition of works made by staff.
