This catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition "Wish You Were Here: The Buffalo Avant-garde in the 1970s," which was on view at Albright-Knox Art Gallery from March 30 to July 8, 2012. This exhibition catalogue features a historical essay by exhibition curator Heather Pesanti, as well as contributing essays by Lawrence Brose, former executive director of CEPA; Sandra Q. Firmin, Curator, UB Art Galleries; Gerald O’Grady, founder of Media Study/Buffalo and UB’s Center for Media Study; Bruce Jackson, SUNY Distinguished Professor and James Agee Professor of American Culture, University at Buffalo; Renée Levine Packer, former managing director of UB’s Center of the Creative and Performing Arts; and Carolyn Tennant, Media Arts Director, Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center. It also features interviews by Pesanti with well-known figures from the period, including Linda Cathcart, Charles Clough, Tony Conrad, Catherine Jansen, Bruce Jenkins, Charlotta Kotik, Robert Longo, Roberto Muffoletto, Cindy Sherman, Jan Williams, and Helene Winer.
