Virtual Presentation Series for Educators: Who’s Afraid of Contemporary Art? Spotlight on Betsy Casañas
Wednesday, October 14, 2020
6:30 pm - 7:15 pm EDT
FREE for educators
Virtual Event
The first event in this new monthly series for educators will focus on artist Betsy Casañas and her mural Patria, Será Porque Quisiera Que Vueles, Que Sigue Siendo Tuyo Mi Vuelo (Homeland, Perhaps It Is Because I Wish to See You Fly, That My Flight Continues to Be Yours), created in collaboration with the Albright-Knox Public Art Initiative, the Hispanic Heritage Council, and the Rich Family Foundation. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we’ll discuss the themes of Casañas’s work, including awareness and appreciation of Western New York’s Hispanic and Latinx communities. We’ll also explore how the artist’s themes and processes can inspire lesson plan development and artmaking.
Registration
Please register online. Registered participants will receive a link to join this virtual event the morning of the program.
About the Series
In these free monthly presentations just for educators, we will explore contemporary artists from the Albright-Knox’s collection and public art projects for curriculum inspiration. Join School and Docent Programs Coordinator Lindsay Kranz for discussions on how contemporary artists are exploring what it means to be a citizen in the 21st century and how those themes might engage students in virtual and in-person learning.
