Join us for the Members’ Preview of The Light in the Window. Buffalo AKG members are invited to be among the first to experience the exhibition with members-only early access and a reception featuring complimentary wine, beer, and mocktails. Snacks and beverages are also available for purchase (10% off with member discount, excluding alcohol).
Curated by Godin-Spaulding Senior Curator for the Collection Holly E. Hughes, The Light in the Window presents works from the Buffalo AKG's Fine Art Collection by 47 contemporary artists that engage with the many meanings of home. Through media including sculpture, video, painting, and photography, the works on view transform domestic spaces and familiar objects into metaphors for nostalgia, displacement, isolation, and belonging, connecting audiences through an idea and experience that is both universal and profoundly individual. The show brings together emerging and mature artists with diverse cultural backgrounds to consider the foundations upon which we build our lives and identities.
The Light in the Window will debut significant recent acquisitions by artists including Donna Dennis, Esko Männikkö, Diamond Stingly, Do Ho Suh, and Jonas Wood, and reconnect audiences to beloved collection works by artists including Tiffany Chung, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, Michael Snow, and Robert Therrien.
