BKFoxx (American, Born 1988) is a public artist originally from Long Island, New York, and currently based in Miami, Florida. She paints photorealistic murals in spray paint alone—no brushes, no projectors, no stencils. BK is self-taught. Starting around 2013, her interest in street art became a practice, one that led her to explore abandoned buildings with cans of spray paint. She was transfixed with how simple paint could transform these spaces. Beginning in New York, BK has now executed murals around the globe. She has evolved into a process where she begins with a story, sets up and photographs a scene, and uses those photos to paint from. The images are meant to be high quality, potent, and thought-provoking to the viewer. 

About Edge of the Void
“Alyssa, featured here [as the subject of the mural], was one of my father's nurses.

My father passed away from cancer two years ago.  He spent almost 4 months in the hospital at the end, fighting as hard as he could to make the most of the rest of his days.  One of his favorite things from that time was all the pretty young nurses he had taking care of him round the clock.

He was in the Medical ICU, which is a place that people go and generally do not return from.  People pass in that wing of the hospital weekly, sometimes daily.  Sometimes the doctors and nurses assist in their passing, because so many patients are terminally ill.

It struck me that for all the philosophers and thrill seekers and spiritualists out there, this group of 20- and 30-somethings who work in that unit live closer to the edge than any of us.  They brush up alongside the abyss every single day, and it is just part of their daily routine at work.
